Does Daman, Nextcare or Neuron cover ABA and speech therapy in the UAE?

If you've looked at your insurance card and wondered whether "Daman," "Nextcare" or "Neuron" actually decide what your child's therapy costs, you're not alone — and the honest answer is that these names mean different things, which changes how you should ask the question.
Insurer vs. claims administrator — the difference matters
Daman (the National Health Insurance Company) is a UAE insurer — it underwrites policies and ultimately decides what's covered. Nextcare and Neuron are third-party administrators (TPAs): companies that process claims and manage provider networks on behalf of various insurers. Your insurance card might show a TPA logo even though a different company actually underwrites your policy — so the first useful question isn't "does Nextcare cover this," it's "who is my actual insurer, and which TPA processes their claims."
What actually determines coverage, across almost every UAE policy
Regardless of which insurer or TPA is on your card, a few factors consistently shape whether autism, ADHD or other therapy is covered:
- Policy tier. Basic and enhanced plans differ significantly in what's included — occupational and speech therapy are more likely to appear on mid-to-enhanced tiers than entry-level ones.
- Diagnosis coding. Most insurers require a formal diagnosis on file before approving therapy claims — this is often why an assessment has to happen before coverage kicks in, not alongside it.
- Pre-approval. Many UAE policies require pre-authorisation before therapy starts, not just a claim submitted afterwards. Starting therapy without pre-approval is a common reason claims get rejected.
- In-network vs. out-of-network providers. Coverage percentages usually drop — sometimes to zero — if your therapist or centre isn't in your insurer's approved network.
- Session or annual caps. Even covered therapies are often capped at a set number of sessions or a yearly value, after which you're paying out of pocket.
The one distinction that surprises most families
Clinical therapies — ABA, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy — are the ones most commonly covered, at least in part, by UAE health insurance. Classroom-based support like an LSA or shadow teacher is a different category entirely: it's usually treated as an educational cost rather than a medical one, so it's rarely covered by health insurance regardless of insurer or tier.
What to actually do before you book
Call the number on your insurance card and ask three things: whether your child's specific diagnosis is covered under your policy tier, whether pre-approval is required before the first session, and which providers are in-network for that therapy. Get the answer in writing if you can — a verbal "yes" from a call centre isn't always what gets honoured at claims stage.
